To recognize and honor those who have made a significant contribution to the Activity Profession and the quality of life in the communities we serve.
GENERAL ENTRY REQUIREMENTS
Please contact the SCAAP membership director to verify the membership status of the entrant (as applicable).

ENTRY SUBMISSIONS:
Must include information that illustrates examples of the criteria pertaining to each award.
Information may take the form of letters, documentation- using certificates references,
or references to specific printed materials.
All persons making a nomination, except for Activity Professional of the Year,
must be a SCAAP member in good standing.

PROFESSIONAL

ACTIVITY
ASSISTANT

CONSULTANT/
EDUCATOR
OF THE YEAR
Recommended and established by the 1986 board
​
Purpose:
To honor an Activity Professional who has created an on-going activity program that reflects favorably upon the activity profession as a whole. This award recognizes an individual with an excellent professional standing in the facility, community and the activity profession.
​
Nominee:
Candidate is required to be SCAAP member in good standing.
​
Nominator:
Director of Nursing or Administrator can also nominate for this award.
​
Criteria:
Letter of recommendation supporting this Activity Professional, as a dynamic person not only a team player but has a great personality. This person supports residents, family members and staff. Letters of support are not required.
​
Recommended by Joan Flannigan, 4th President.
Established in 1988.
​
Purpose:
To honor an Activity Consultant or Educator for dedication & expertise in carrying out those roles & for service to the Activity Profession.
​
Nominee:
Candidate must be certified by a recognized credentialing body.
​
CNA/CAREGIVER
OF THE YEAR
Recommended & Established in 2019
​
Purpose:
To honor a Certified Nursing Assistant or Caregiver in a Healthcare Community
​
Criteria:
A Certified Nursing Assistant or caregiver who goes “above and beyond” caring for the whole person, recognizing the importance of meaningful activities and Quality of Life. Letter of recommendation that describes how the nominee has displayed support for the Activity Director and the Activity Department.
NOMINATOR:
The nomination must originate from a community that employs at least one SCAAP member.

ADMINISTRATOR
OF THE YEAR
Recommended & established in 1986.
​
Purpose:
To honor an Administrator who is exceptional in providing leadership for staff & in supporting the activity staff.
​
Criteria:
Letter of recommendation to describe how the nominee has displayed support for the Activity Director and must be employed when nominated in a Healthcare, Retirement, Assisted Living, or Adult Day Care.

DIRECTOR OF NURSES
OF THE YEAR
Recommended by Ann Roberts; established in 1988
​
Purpose:
To honor an Activity Assistant who has provided exceptional support to his/her Activity Director Supervisor.
​
Nominee:
Candidate is required to be SCAAP member in good standing.
​
Nominator:
Director of Nursing or Administrator can also nominate for this award.
​
Criteria:
Letter of recommendation that describes their support of the Activity Director, how he/she is a team player, takes on added responsibility for the department as well as a role model for other staff.
​
Recommended & Established in 1986
​
Purpose:
To honor a Director of Nurses who has displayed exceptional support of the Activity Profession & Activity Department.
​
Criteria:
Letter of recommendation to describe how the nominee has displayed support for the Activity Director and Activity Department.

SCAAP DISTINGUISHED MERIT AWARD
The SCAAP Board of Directors annually reviews Distinguished Merit Award Nominees,
and selects the winner by vote.
CRITERIA:
The Distinguished Merit Award Qualifications to be nominated for this award is not a SCAAP member; the nominee is an Individual, an Agency, or an Institution in California that has consistently made significant contributions to the growth and advancement of the Activity Profession most deserving of this prestigious SCAAP Award presented at the Annual SCAAP Conference.
NOTE: This Award is nominated, voted on, and decided by the SCAAP BOARD only.
